Artisan’s Bio...
Leslie Hauck has been spinning for nearly 30 years, using anything that is spinnable from Sable Island pony hair to milkweed pod silk. She currently focuses on dog hair because of it’s availability, dye-ability, novelty, and beauty!
Handling fibers, working with colour, spinning and creating yarns is a passion for Leslie; so, too, is passing on that excitement through demonstrating to the public and teaching students. She’s been teaching for 10 years through The Nova Scotia Centre for Craft and Design, the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (nscad), and privately.
Beginning her post-secondary education with three years in Fashion Design, she attended the Parsons School of Design in New York. As a life-long knitter, seamstress, and clothing designer, her love of fiber, color and textiles has been a continuous thread throughout.
At mid-life other passions took over and Leslie obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Family Studies, a Master’s of Art Degree in Feminist Counselling, and a Certificate in Psychosynthesis. She balances life as Family Life Educator and Counsellor for The Eastern Shore Family Resource Association with her business, The Spinner’s Loft -- Learn-To-Spin Vacation Workshops, Studio, and Shop.
