The Spinner’s Loft Experience...
Learning the age-old art of hand spinning fibers in the fully-equipped Spinner’s Loft on Nova Scotia’s coast of the Atlantic Ocean.
It is a multi-sensual experience: see the very blue, or maybe the mists, of Jeddore Harbour; hear the soft clicks of the spinning wheels with the gentle lapping of the water against the rocky shoreline and the call of gulls; handle the myriad fibres that can be spun into yarn; smell the sea air mixed with the subtlety of silk noil or the pungent sheep’s wool redolent of a summer farm meadow; and enjoy the tastes of fresh, local foods put together for snacks and lunches in interesting, healthful, and delicious ways.
But the Spinner’s Loft is not just about learning to spin, honing your spinning skills, or creating novelty yarns from the exotic fibres you just spun, it is also about unwinding and enjoying your surroundings. We will take the time to learn, relax and play.
More sensual delights are yours for the choosing: a refreshing swim in a lake or the ocean, a barefoot-soothing stroll on sand beaches with rolling surf, a woodland hike or a canoe picnic, or simply sitting by the water and watching the sun rise or set. Maybe even a lesson in Scottish Country Dancing set to lively fiddle tunes!
All this packaged with the opportunity to be in the company of a small group of like-minded craftspeople, in the stunning beauty of the Nova Scotia coastline.
The Spinner’s Loft is located in a natural setting of ocean, field, and woods with a 19th century fisherman’s Cape house full of warmth, character, comfort and charm. The fully-equipped Studio is adjacent to the house, with a stunning view of the harbour.
